Meysam Kordi, 32, phoned police and through an interpreter said he had explosives, but did not want to hurt anybody. Armed cops surrounded the flat in Dukinfield, Gtr Manchester, closed the road and put a nearby school on lockdown, the city’s Minshull Street crown court heard. Prosecutor Duncan Wilcock said: “He complained about access to health care. “He claimed he had attached three kilograms of explosives to himself. “He wanted the police to come and kill him.” Following police negotiations, Kordi, who arrived from Iran in 2018, eventually left the flat wearing a fake suicide vest and was arrested. He admitted the January 16 bomb hoax. Sentencing him to a year’s jail, the judge said: “Your status as asylum-seeker made it difficult to access treatment. That doesn’t excuse what you did. “Police protocol was rolled out at great public expense and inconvenience. “This you must realise had real lasting impact, causing real distress over a period of hours.” GOT a story?
